“My Idea of a Professional Teacher”
By: Precious S. De Castro
A student is nothing without their teachers who inspires them. Without teachers there will be no other profession. Teachers help us to be somebody and bring out the best in each one of us. Without them we would know nothing and be nothing. We need them to impart their knowledge to us and to the future generation.  The teacher’s pride is to know that he/she create a student that would someday be successful.

When we were asked to write about our idea of a professional teacher I had no clue on what to write. First I said that I would just simply define a professional teacher. Then I said to myself it wouldn’t be my idea in that case. Then after a few while I decided to write on my common understanding in the word “teacher”. And to share on what would I like or ask for a teacher.

For me teaching is more than a profession; it is about being full time parents to us-their students. We spend most of our hours in the school with our teachers. That is why I consider our teachers to be our second parents and our school to be our second home. And every teacher would try to reach the certain expectation of us-their children.

The role of a professional teacher is often very formal and looks uninteresting. But my idea of a teacher is just simple. I would love a teacher who will act as a guide to me without pushing me too much. A teacher who will motivate me and boost me with good morale. A parent who will be there to encourage me without criticizing me or hurting my feelings. And I would enjoy a teacher who will serve as our friend, guide, educator, parent, and a blend of all the good qualities one can posses.

A teacher shapes and molds our entire life. If everyone in this world gets an ideal teacher, he/she won’t have to look back in his/her life ever. An ideal teacher for me is a problem solver. A teacher who will always be there to help us without expecting something in return. But sometimes we assume that our teachers will come up with a solution for all our problems. And we learn to look up on them because it seems that they have an answer for everything.

To cut it short, for me a professional teacher is an educator who will not just teach me to read, write, and solve mathematical problems. But also be a friend to be there in the struggles of life.
